‘Ceramic Organic’ Lamp
Ceramic Organic is designed for easy disassembly into its constituents, with 100% biodegradable materials. No material is glued or affixed to another in any permanent manner. The lamp shade is easily replaceable in case of damage, and all electronic components are easily removable and replaceable.
The washi paper shade was measured and cut to a rectangle before being soaked in water and formed around a PLA mold. PLA was used for the sub-structure. The washi paper is secured with small PLA pins that connect it to the sub-structure. Ash wood offcuts from previous projects were used to create the lamp’s base. The base required sections to be drilled and chiselled out to allow the switch and wires to be housed within it.
3D printing of air dry clay was a new and unfamiliar process, requiring much experimentation to get right. Viscosity and the clay’s ability to adhere to itself were the most important factors to test. The taller the print became, the more unstable it was, and thus required constant supervision and attention.
